Welcome to the Charis Spiritual Director Training Program. As an initiative sponsored by the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, our three-year program combines the ancient Christian traditions of spiritual guidance with the Wesleyan spirituality that informs and inspires the United Methodist faith. Our ecumenical program has trained more than 60 Spiritual Directors in the practice of spiritual direction over the past 12 years. Our 5th class is in process now and we will start our 6th class in the fall of 2020, applications will go out in the fall of 2019.
Spiritual direction is the process of accompanying people on their spiritual journeys and helps persons to tell their sacred stories. Spiritual directors live and invite others into a deeper relationship with The Holy and offer a safe place to explore prayer practices, meditation, spiritual experiences, and our growing desire for significance.
We wish to emphasize that spiritual direction is a calling, much like ordained ministry is a calling. Both laypersons and clergy find themselves drawn toward this area of service.
